Violist at Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra

From Long Island NY, Neil Miller is a violist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been with the viola section since 2016, only a few months after beginning his Masters degree. He holds both a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance, and a Master of Music degree in viola performance from the Eastman School of Music. He was awarded the coveted Performer's Certificate and was also the recipient of the Robert L. Oppelt Viola Prize which is presented annually to an outstanding violist at Eastman. He has worked with many world-renowned conductors including Karina Canellakis, Andreas Delfs, Fabien Gabel, Andrew Litton, Ken-David Masur, Gemma New, Peter Oundjian, Michael Stern, and David Zinman. He is also a member of the Finger Lakes Opera and Skaneatles Music Festivals held each summer. Neil spent most summers of his undergraduate studies at the Charles Castleman Quartet Program both in Boulder, CO, and Fredonia, NY. Neil has studied with Shirley Givens, Richard Amoroso, Lynn Blakeslee, Renée Jolles, Kerri Ryan, Roberta Zalkind, and was most recently a viola student of George Taylor.

In 2024, Neil joined the faculty of the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS) teaching viola and chamber music.
